📜Bible Reading
Ephesians 5:25-27 (KJV)
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."
Malachi 2:15 (KJV)
"And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed."
Proverbs 18:22 (KJV)

↪️ Lesson Aim: To understand why God established marriage and how His purpose for marriage extends beyond personal happiness to His glory.
🎣Opening Hook:
Imagine someone gives you a tool you've never seen before.
Without knowing its purpose, you might use it incorrectly, damage it, or leave it sitting idle. The problem is not with the tool; the problem is that you don't understand why it was created.
Now consider this:
Many people enter marriage seeking happiness, financial security, companionship, or social acceptance. While these may be benefits of marriage, they are not its ultimate purpose. When we misunderstand the purpose of marriage, we often misuse it. But when we discover God's purpose, marriage becomes a powerful channel for love, growth, service, and spiritual impact.Ask yourself:Why did God create marriage in the first place?
Today's study will help us answer that question.
🙏Opening Prayer
"Heavenly Father, thank You for Your wisdom and perfect design. As we study Your Word today, reveal Your purpose for marriage and help us align our thinking with Your truth. Open our hearts to understand that marriage exists not merely for our benefit but for Your glory. Teach us to value relationships according to Your plan and help us become faithful stewards of every relationship You have entrusted to us. In Jesus' name, Amen."
🍖Introduction
Many people ask:
💕 "Will marriage make me happy?" 💕
While happiness is a blessing, God never designed marriage to exist solely for personal satisfaction.
Marriage was created for something far greater.
God designed marriage to reflect His character, display His love, provide support and companionship, nurture future generations, and demonstrate Christ's relationship with His Church.
When couples understand God's purpose, they stop asking, "What can I get?" and begin asking, "How can our marriage glorify God?"
🧬Life Application Story
The Lamp That Was Never Switched On
A family once purchased a beautiful lamp. It was expensive, beautifully crafted, and placed in the center of their living room.
Visitors admired it.
The family dusted it regularly and proudly displayed it.
Years passed before someone discovered something surprising.
The lamp had never been plugged in.
Although it looked beautiful, it was never fulfilling its purpose.
The lamp was created to provide light.
One day, a guest plugged it into a power source and switched it on. Instantly, the room became brighter and more welcoming.
The family realized they had admired the lamp's appearance but had overlooked its purpose.
📲Spiritual Connection
Many people approach marriage in the same way.
They admire the ceremony, the wedding dress, the photographs, and the celebration.
But marriage was never created simply to look beautiful.
Marriage was created to shine.
It shines when it reflects God's love.
It shines when husband and wife encourage one another spiritually.
It shines when children are raised to know God.
It shines when the relationship becomes a testimony of God's faithfulness.
Just as the lamp needed a power source, marriage reaches its full purpose when connected to God.
📌Main Teaching Points
1. 🪙 Marriage Brings Glory to God
The highest purpose of marriage is not personal happiness but God's glory.
When a husband and wife love, forgive, respect, and support each other, they reveal something about God's character to the world.
Marriage should demonstrate:
- God's faithfulness- God's love- God's patience- God's grace
A strong marriage becomes a living testimony of God's goodness.
🪒Application: Ask yourself, "Does my relationship point people toward God or away from Him?"
2. 🪙 Marriage Provides Companionship
God never intended for life to be lived in isolation.
From the beginning, God declared:
"It is not good that the man should be alone." (Genesis 2:18)
Marriage provides:
- Emotional support- Spiritual encouragement- Shared responsibilities- Mutual growth
A godly spouse is not merely a partner in daily life but also a partner in spiritual growth.
🪒Application: How can you be a source of encouragement to others this week?
3. 🪙 Marriage Produces Godly Generations
Malachi reminds us that one purpose of marriage is to produce "godly offspring."
Marriage creates an environment where faith can be nurtured and passed from one generation to another.
Parents are called to:
- Model faith- Teach God's Word- Demonstrate integrity- Lead by example
Strong families build strong communities.
🪒Application: Consider what spiritual legacy you are building for future generations.
4. 🪙 Marriage Displays Christ's Love
One of the greatest mysteries of marriage is that it reflects Christ's relationship with His Church.
Just as Christ loves sacrificially:
- Husbands are called to love sacrificially.- Wives are called to respond with respect and partnership.- Both are called to demonstrate grace and commitment.
Marriage is more than a legal relationship. It is a living picture of the Gospel.
🪒Application: How can your relationships reflect Christ's love more clearly?
💭Imagination Exercise
The Purpose Puzzle
------- +++ -------------- +++ -------------- +++ -------
Close your eyes for a moment and imagine building a house. You have six foundation stones:
- Companionship- Worship- Family- Ministry- Love- Service
Now imagine removing one stone at a time.
What happens to the house?
Which stone seems most important?
Which stones support the others?
Now imagine placing God at the center of all six stones.
How does the house change?
🤳Reflection:
Marriage was designed to include all these purposes working together under God's direction.

🎷Closing Hymn from GC
No. 9 (SEC 15): O God of Grace, Who Joins as One

Suggested Tune: St. Catherine • Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 • Key: G Major
1:
O God of grace who joins as one
Two lives beneath the rising sun,
Unite their hearts in faith and love
With wisdom sent from heaven above.
May every vow they speak today
Endure through all the earthly way.
2:
When trials rise or shadows fall,
Be Thou their refuge and their all;
Let kindness grace each word they speak,
And give Your strength unto the weak.
In harmony of holy peace,
Let heaven’s joy in them increase.
3:
A living emblem of the bride,
Walk with the Savior at their side;
Till years are crowned with golden light,
And faith gives way to perfect sight.
All glory to the Father, Son,
And Holy Spirit, Three in One.

Theme: The Purpose of Marriage
🧨Stanza 1
O Lord, Architect of covenant pathways,
You fashioned companionship before kingdoms were born.
Before cities rose and nations gathered,
You spoke of union and called it good.
Teach us to see what You intended from the beginning.
🧨Stanza 2
For many seek marriage as a destination,
Yet You designed it as a journey.
Many seek comfort,
Yet You established covenant.
Many seek happiness alone,
Yet You ordained purpose and holy partnership.
🧨Stanza 3
Blessed is the home where Your voice is heard,
Where prayer rises before the morning sun,
Where hearts are joined not merely by affection,
But by obedience to Your Word.
Such homes become lamps in a darkened world.
🧨Stanza 4
Let husbands and wives become builders of grace,
Repairers of broken places,
Encouragers in seasons of weakness,
And witnesses of Your faithfulness.
May their unity proclaim Your goodness.
🧨Stanza 5
Raise godly generations from homes established in truth.
Let children behold integrity.
Let families become classrooms of faith.
Let the knowledge of the Lord flow
From one generation to another.
🧨Stanza 6
As Christ loves His Church,
Teach us to love beyond convenience.
As Christ serves His people,
Teach us to serve beyond obligation.
As Christ remains faithful,
Teach us steadfast covenant commitment.
🧨Stanza 7
O Lord, breathe upon every marriage,
Strengthen every family,
Prepare every waiting heart,
And align every relationship with Your purpose.
May every home become an altar,
And may every covenant reveal the glory of Christ. Amen.
🥘Trickle Reflection
Marriage was never created merely to complete a person; it was created to glorify God. When purpose is understood, relationships move from self-centered expectations to God-centered mission.
💎Trickle Thought
A marriage that pursues God's purpose will discover deeper joy than a marriage that pursues happiness alone.
🌟Key Takeaway
Marriage was created by God not merely to make us happy, but to make us holy, useful, loving, and reflective of Christ. When we understand its purpose, we can appreciate its value and live according to God's design.
📿Closing Prayer
"Heavenly Father,
Thank You for revealing the beauty and purpose of marriage through Your Word. Help us never to reduce marriage to a mere social arrangement or personal convenience. Teach us to see it as a sacred gift that brings glory to Your name.
Lord, strengthen every marriage represented by this study. Renew love where it has grown weak, restore hope where discouragement exists, and bring healing where there is hurt. Help husbands and wives to support one another faithfully, serve one another humbly, and honor You wholeheartedly.
For those who are single, prepare their hearts according to Your will and teach them the value of godly relationships. For families, help them raise future generations that love and follow You.
May every home become a place where Your presence is welcomed, Your Word is honored, and Your love is displayed.
Let our relationships point others to Jesus Christ, our perfect example of love and sacrifice.
In Jesus' mighty name we pray,
Amen."
