⚔️ God's Word Must Be Fulfilled: Lessons from Jesus Before the Cross
Text: Matthew 26:1-4; Matthew 26:51-54
📜Scripture Reading
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV): "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
🎼 Hymn from the Global Canticle (GC-180)
No. 14 (SUB-SEC 10): Breath of Our Time
Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 3:1 • Daniel 2:21
Tune: Sovereign Concord • Meter: 13.13.13.13.13.13 • Key: E-Flat Major
1:
All times belong to God, the seasons are His,
The dawn and the sunset, the ages and years;
He raises the kingdoms, He humbles the proud,
His wisdom is perfect, His glory aloud.
His covenant stands, His mercy is sure,
His reign everlasting, His truth shall endure;
All times belong to God, His purpose is plain,
The Lamb who was slain forever shall reign.
[Refrain]:
All times belong to our God, His kingdom shall stand,
The Lord of the ages, who holds every hand.
All times belong to our God, His truth we proclaim,
Forever exalted, His holy name.
2:
The morning shall rise, the evening shall fall,
Yet Christ is the same, the Lord over all;
The nations shall tremble, the peoples shall sing,
The glory of Jesus, our Savior and King.
His promise is sure, His vision is clear,
His Spirit is moving, His presence is near;
All times belong to God, His mercy shall stay,
His kingdom advancing in glorious array.
3:
To Him who spans ages, the Ancient of Days,
To Father, Son, Spirit, eternal our praise;
Unchanging in holiness, power, and grace,
Enthroned past all time in the heavenly place.
From generations to ages untold,
His glorious counsel and truth shall unfold;
Praise God in the highest, the Lord of all time,
In majesty reigning, eternal, sublime.
Imagine standing in a situation where one prayer could instantly remove your suffering. Would you pray that prayer?
Jesus could have.
Yet He chose not to.
Why? Because there was something more important than His immediate deliverance: the fulfillment of God's Word.
🏷️Sunday Introduction:
As we gather to worship this Sunday, we are reminded of one of the most profound moments in human history. Jesus Christ stood at the doorstep of Calvary, knowing fully well the agony, shame, rejection, and crucifixion that awaited Him. Yet He was not helpless. He was not weak. He was not trapped by His enemies. At any moment, He could have called upon His Father to send mighty angels from heaven to rescue Him. The King of Glory possessed unlimited power and authority. However, Jesus refused to escape because there was something greater than His temporary suffering: the fulfillment of God's Word. The Scriptures had spoken, and what God had declared had to come to pass. Christ understood that heaven and earth may pass away, but God's Word can never fail.
This truth remains relevant today. We live in a world where many nations boast in military strength, economic power, scientific advancement, and human wisdom. From the United States, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Brazil, and other influential nations, to countries across Asia and the Middle East such as Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, and many others, God's call to repentance remains the same. No nation is above God, and no people can permanently resist His sovereign plan.
Psalm 22:27-28 declares that "all the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord." Isaiah 2:2 reveals that in the last days people from the nations will seek the Lord. The message is clear: whether powerful or weak, rich or poor, every nation and every people must turn to God before His appointed day arrives. The kingdoms of this world belong ultimately to the Lord, and every prophecy concerning His eternal purpose shall surely be fulfilled.
❤️🔥Devotion:
As Jesus approached the hour of His crucifixion, He knew exactly what was about to happen. The chief priests and elders had already devised a plan to arrest and kill Him (Matthew 26:1-4). Nothing occurring around Him was a surprise.
When the soldiers came to arrest Him, one of His disciples attempted to defend Him with a sword. Jesus immediately rebuked that action and declared that He could pray to His Father and receive more than twelve legions of angels (Matthew 26:53). Heaven stood ready to intervene.
Yet Jesus willingly surrendered Himself because God's redemptive plan had to be accomplished. If He had chosen deliverance instead of obedience, the Scriptures concerning His suffering, death, and resurrection would not have been fulfilled.
This reveals an unchanging truth: God's Word must come to pass.
Throughout history, prophecies concerning Christ's birth, ministry, betrayal, suffering, and resurrection were fulfilled precisely as written. In the same way, the prophecies concerning the nations, the spread of the Gospel, and the second coming of Christ will also be fulfilled.
Psalm 22:27-28 teaches that all nations shall remember and turn to the Lord, for the kingdom belongs to Him. Isaiah 2:2 declares that God's kingdom shall be exalted and nations shall flow unto it. The book of Revelation repeatedly points to the glorious return of Jesus Christ, when every eye shall see Him and every knee shall bow before Him. Therefore, no matter how rebellious the world may appear today, God's purpose will stand. No government, military alliance, economic system, political ideology, or global power can stop the fulfillment of divine prophecy. The same God who fulfilled every word concerning Christ's first coming will fulfill every word concerning His second coming. Believers must therefore remain steadfast, watchful, and faithful. Our confidence is not in world events but in the certainty of God's Word. What He has spoken shall surely come to pass.
⛎Christ's Return: The Next Great Fulfillment
Just as the prophecies concerning Christ's first coming were fulfilled, the prophecies concerning His second coming will also be fulfilled. The book of Revelation speaks clearly about the glorious return of Jesus Christ. He is coming again not as a suffering Savior but as the King of kings and Lord of lords. The world that rejected Him will see Him. The nations that ignored Him will answer before Him. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Today, many nations pursue wealth, power, military superiority, and human wisdom while neglecting God. Yet Scripture declares that the kingdoms of this world ultimately belong to the Lord. The message of Psalm 22:27-28 remains urgent:
"All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee."
Isaiah 2:2 also assures us that God's kingdom shall be established above all kingdoms.
Therefore, there is still time for repentance. There is still time for individuals, leaders, and nations to turn to God. But the appointed day is coming. The same God who fulfilled every prophecy concerning Christ's first coming will certainly fulfill every prophecy concerning His return.
The world may question it.
Scoffers may doubt it.
Governments may ignore it.
But God's Word will stand forever.
Jesus is coming again.
☪️Prophetic Insight
The fulfillment of Christ's crucifixion proves that Bible prophecy is trustworthy. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, the prophets foretold His suffering, rejection, death, and victory over the grave. Every prophecy was fulfilled exactly as God declared. Therefore, believers can confidently trust every prophecy that remains, especially concerning Christ's return and God's eternal kingdom.
📣A Warning to the Nations
Throughout history, mighty empires have risen and fallen, but God's kingdom remains forever. Today, nations place confidence in military power, wealth, technology, diplomacy, and human wisdom. Yet Scripture reminds us that no nation can thrive apart from God.
The call of the Gospel extends to every nation, tribe, and tongue. Whether in Africa, Europe, Asia, North America, South America, the Middle East, or Oceania, God's invitation remains the same:
Repent, believe the Gospel, and turn to Jesus Christ before the appointed day.
📚Lessons for Every Believer
Jesus had the power to escape suffering but chose obedience to God's will. God's Word can never fail, regardless of human opposition. Every prophecy spoken by God will be fulfilled at the appointed time.
Nations and individuals alike are called to repentance before the Lord. The certainty of Christ's first coming guarantees the certainty of His second coming. Believers should live in readiness for the return of Jesus Christ.
No earthly power is greater than the sovereign purpose of God.

Thought for the Day
Jesus refused deliverance from the cross so that Scripture could be fulfilled. Let us refuse unbelief and trust that every promise of God will also be fulfilled.
Declaration: The Naphtali Seal
Insight: Just as Naphtali is described as a "hind let out" yielding goodly words of swift, divine praise and sovereign victory, every word spoken, written, and fulfilled points directly to God. He is the anchor of our faith, the Sovereign Ruler of the nations, and the ultimate Author of every divine prophecy.
