Return to Me: The Power of Repentance

🫖Key Scripture

Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” — Acts 3:19 (NKJV).

🌈Hymn from Global Canticle
No. 1 (Sec 16): The Fear of the Lord
Meter: 8.6.8.6
Key: D Minor
Tune: St. Agnes

1.
The fear of God is wisdom’s root,
A holy, trembling flame;
It guards the heart, it bears good fruit,
It honors heaven’s name.

2.
Not dread, but awe that draws us near,
To walk in truth and grace;
To turn from sin, to see Him clear,
And seek His shining face.

3.
Let reverence shape the way I live,
Let mercy guide my soul;
The fear of God will always give
A light that makes me whole.

4.
I choose the path of holy awe,
I walk where angels tread;
The fear of God shall be my law,
My light, my daily bread.

Introduction:

Repentance is not a punishmen
it’s an invitation.
It’s not a moment of shame—it’s the beginning of healing.
When a soul asks, “Can I come back to God?”
He answers, “Return to Me, for I am merciful.”

Repentance is the heartbeat of revival. Without it, we remain distant. With it, we are restored.

 I). What Is Repentance?

- Repentance is more than saying “I’m sorry.”
It’s a change of mind, a turning of direction, a surrender of the heart.

- The Greek word metanoia means “to change one’s mind” or “to turn around.”

Repentance is not just remorse—it’s reformation.

📕Supporting Scripture
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him…”
— Isaiah 55:7.

 II). Why We Must Repent

1. Sin Separates Us
- Sin builds walls between us and God.
- Repentance tears those walls down.

“Your iniquities have separated you from your God…” — Isaiah 59:2.

2. God Desires Restoration
- God is not waiting to punish—He’s waiting to forgive.
- Repentance opens the door to mercy.

“I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked… but that he turn from his way and live.” — Ezekiel 33:11.

3. Repentance Brings Refreshing
- When we repent, we don’t just escape judgment—we enter joy.
- The presence of God floods a repentant heart with peace.

“Times of refreshing shall come…” — Acts 3:19

 III). How to Repent

1. Recognize the Sin
- Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what needs to change.
- Be honest. Be humble.

2. Confess and Forsake
“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” — Proverbs 28:13.

- Speak it out. Lay it down. Walk away from it.

3. Receive Forgiveness
- Don’t carry guilt God has already lifted.
- Accept His grace and walk in freedom.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
— 1 John 1:9 (NIV).

IV). The Joy of Repentance

- Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7).
- Repentance is not the end—it’s the beginning of restoration, revival, and relationship.

The prodigal son didn’t return perfect—he returned repentant.
And the Father ran to meet him.

📜Encouragement Scripture
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17.

This verse reminds us that repentance doesn’t just erase the past—it ushers in a brand‑new beginning. As we close this year, God is offering us a fresh start in Christ.

🗯️Guided Reflection (Year‑End Pause)

“Before we close, I invite you to pause.
Take a deep breath.
Think back over this past year—your choices, your struggles, your victories.

- Ask the Holy Spirit: ‘Lord, show me where I need to turn back to You.’
- Name it silently: Whatever He brings to mind, lay it before Him.
- Release it: Picture yourself placing it at the foot of the cross.
- Receive His mercy: Hear Him say, ‘Return to Me, for I am merciful.’

Now, let His refreshing presence wash over you as you step into the new year.”

🏷️Closing Call:
Today, God is saying, “Return to Me.”
Not with fear, but with faith.
Not with shame, but with surrender.

Whether you’ve wandered far or stumbled just a little—He’s waiting.
Repentance is your bridge back to His heart.

✨ Transition to Prayer:
“As you’ve laid your year before the Lord, know that He has heard you. Let us now join our hearts together in prayer, receiving His mercy and stepping into His refreshing presence.”

🛐 Closing Prayer (Daily Drop Original):
“Father, I come not with excuses, but with open hearts.
I repent of my sins, my pride, my rebellion.
Wash me. Restore me. Renew me.
Let times of refreshing come upon me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

📿Benediction (Year‑End Blessing):
“May the Lord who calls you to return, keep you in His mercy.
May His refreshing presence renew your spirit as you step into the new year.
Go in peace, walk in freedom, and live in the joy of His restoration.
Amen.”
